King of Greene Street is a landmarked cast-iron Second Empire style building located at the center of SOHO between Spring and Broome Streets. H2 Architects was selected to overhaul the two-story 14,000 SF ground floor and cellar spaces for two stores: an exclusive clothing retailer and a high-end design store. H2 opened up grand masonry arches separating the two halves of the space and installed glass and steel doors, as the two retailers wanted options of sharing the spaces for events. Additionally, large floor openings were cut out, exposing the old wood beam structure, visually connecting the two levels and bringing natural light into the lower spaces.
