Yungie Hahn & Christoph Härter

ABOUT Us

Their first meeting in Darmstadt, Germany in 1993 was a turning point. He had just graduated with his Master in Architecture degree and was working. She had just finished her first year of architecture school. Their relationship grew, and they decided to establish a home together in New York. By 2000, they had combined their skills and resources to form H2 Architects.

Yungie Hahn is a LEEDS Accredited Professional with a Bachelor of Science from MIT in physics and a Masters of Architecture from Columbia University. Her work in astrophysics, bio-medical engineering, and robotics makes her uniquely suited to problem-solving issues of design. Her big-picture perspective translates down to the nuances and details of interiors and finishes.

Along with residential projects, she has worked on large-scale government/public buildings, mixed-use commercial developments, university planning and feasibility studies, retail stores, and commercial office renovations. She has a big-picture perspective, and is an excellent resource on finishes and interiors.

Christoph Haerter is a third-generation architect. In his youth, he worked in the family firm founded by his grandfather in Frankfurt, Germany. He went on to receive his Master of Architecture degree from the THD-University of Darmstadt, Germany.

He brings the exacting standards and attention to detail that are hallmarks of contemporary European architecture, plus a skillset in sustainable design and energy efficiency. Past projects include award-winning designs for museums, libraries, and firehouses. In addition, he dealt with issues of stormwater and water retention in his design for New York City’s first green roof on a public project for the New York Public Library. Christoph’s education, experience, and aptitude has developed into a deep knowledge of building and construction, and having at one point considered a career as a fine artist, he has an expansive knowledge of art.

Today, the two work together seamlessly to provide impeccable, innovative designs that exceed their client’s expectations in every way. Yungie says, “Our strength is in our varied backgrounds, our deep experience, our unique perspectives, and our collaborative spirit.”

Part of my education is quantitative, and logic based.  I can get to the root of the problem and the essential requirements of the solution whilst organizing a hierarchy of what can be done to the greatest effect.

There are real tasks that need to be solved whether you are engineering robotics or designing space.

—Yungie Hahn

A well-thought-through project, designed in close partnership with the client, will go through execution as-is with no additional cost.

We can only get there if we fully understand the client, their lifestyle, and their desires.

—Christoph Haerter
